Oberste Gasse (Basically High street) is a Street in Kassel, Germany. It was one of the most important streets in Medieval kassel and therefore had a lot of outstanding buildings.
It was a very long street, one of the Longest in the old town of Kassel and is about 320 meters long. From this street you could have a great view on the towers of the Saint Martin's Church.
The terroristic unnecessary english Bombardement on Friday the 22th octobre 1943 have destroyed Except the Elisabeth Hosptial which was however badly damaged All buildings on the street and nothing reminds anymore on the Timber framed houses that once filled this street.
The street resembles today more of a Highway and most of the side streets Ziegengasse, Druselgasse etc. have been removed and the only street that still exists from the old plan is Entengasse which has been made much wider and renamed into Entenanger.
52 Buildings on the street.
